Aitikov Izgutty Kurmanbayevich (1922-1944) - Hero of the Soviet Union

Izgutty Aitykov was born on January 20, 1922 in the village of Targyn, Ulansky district, East Kazakhstan region. Here he spent his childhood and youth. Here he finished seven classes, began working at the Kolbaolovo mine.

From the first days of the war, he rushed to the front. Repeatedly wrote applications to the Ulansky district military registration and enlistment office, but each time was refused. Only in May 1942, after a letter addressed to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Izgutty Aitykov, entered the active army. He fought at the walls of Stalingrad, liberated the lands of the Kalinin, Kursk, Belgorod regions, reached the banks of the Western Dvina. The fearless scout Aitykov has been behind enemy lines more than once. He personally destroyed 50 Hitlerites and delivered them to part 22 of the captive. For the excellent performance of the combat missions of the command, he was awarded the Order of the Red Star, Orders of Glory II and III degrees and the medal "For the Defense of Stalingrad".

In June 1944, units of the 51st Guards Rifle Division reached the Western Dvina. In the battle for the village of Pligovka, Aitykov was one of the first to break into the enemy’s location, throw grenades at three bunkers and dugouts, knock out the enemy’s tractor and cannon. When capturing the village of Pershino and the Lovsha railway station, he destroyed two heavy machine guns and about forty enemy soldiers and officers. After some time, Izgutty again distinguished himself when crossing the Daugava River. The Komsomol organizer of the battalion with a small group of fighters, under a hail of bullets and mine explosions, moved to the opposite bank and opened heavy fire, forcing the Nazis to abandon their positions and flee. The divisions of the regiment took advantage of this, crossed the river and drove the Germans. Komsomolskaya Pravda wrote about this feat on September 3, 1944 in the article "Komsomol organizer fought here." The front-line life of the guards foreman I. Aitykov, Komsomol organizer of the 1st battalion of the 158th Guards Red Banner Rifle Regiment of the 51st Guards Order of Lenin of the Red Banner Rifle Division named after Voroshilov of the 6th Guards Army is rich in exploits.

For one of them, when crossing the Western Dvina, Aitykov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

Izgutta Aitykov failed to reach Berlin. On July 22, 1944, in the battles to liberate the Zarasai region of Lithuania from the Nazis, he received a severe shrapnel wound and died 3 days later, on July 26.

A dry cargo ship, streets in Zarasai, Alma-Ata, a secondary school in the village of Targyn, where he studied, are named after Izgutta Aitykov. There is a memorial plaque on the school building. Bust of the Hero installed in Ust-Kamenogorsk and Polotsk (Russia)
