Mekishev Bakhtazhar (1927-2005) is an art critic, historian, Honored Worker of Culture of Kazakhstan.

He was born on April 12, 1927 in the village Kainar, Abyralinsky district (now belongs to the territory of the city of Semey), the East Kazakhstan region. In 1949 he graduated from Moscow State University, and later in 1952 Bakhtazhar completed his postgraduate studies there. In 1952-1957 he worked as a guide-translator at VDNKh (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy) in Moscow. 1957-1960 years he is the Head of the Literary Department at the Kazakh Academic Theater for Children and Teenagers in Almaty, in 1960-1999 he organized and lead the community "Seven Muses" in the Kazakh State University named after S. M. Kirov (at present KazNU is named after Al-Farabi). He was the presenter of the aesthetic club "Kyz Zhibek".

Bakhtazhar Mekishev is the author of the books “Abai atyndagy Kazakh academiyalyk opera zhane ballet theatres”, “Alemnin zhetі keremet”, “Oner alemine sayakhat”, “Dostyk mektebi”, etc.

He died in 2005 in Almaty.
