Кулахмет Габиден

Kulakhmet Gabiden (1955-2006) – poet, writer

He was born in the Sholpan village of Ayagoz district of East Kazakhstan oblast.
After graduating the journalism faculty of Kazakh State University named after Al-Farabi and Higher literary courses at the Moscow Literary Institute named after Gorky, he worked as an editor of the publishing house «Zhalyn», and in the Committee for publishing, printing and the book trade, on the Kazakh television.
Since 1990 he was in Union writers of Kazakhstan. In 1990-1995 he was the main founder of the center «Kazakh youth and business». In 1996-2001 he was the deputy Chairman of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan. In 1996 he was elected secretary of the Board of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan.
His first poems were published in the collective anthologies «Twelve months of the year» (1969), «Breath of Spring» (1975). He is the author of poetry collections «Light of the eyes» (1978), «Bright Beginning» (1980), «Fellow Test». He is the author of the collections of short stories «The sunken in the lake village» (1989), «Don’t interrupted your offspring» (1991), «Testing the strength of men» (1994), «The last message of the poet» (1998). In 2001 he published the novel «Lone Wolf».
His works have been translated into Russian, Polish, Mongolian, Chechen, Ukrainian and Belarusian languages. He was twice winner of the contest of the publishing house «Zhalyn». He was the winner of the international literary prize «Alash» (2003).
