Nurkasym Kusmilya (1949) is a poet, singer, art critic, cultural critic, a native of Urdzhar district.

He was born on May 25, 1949 in the village of Yeltai, Urzhar district, Semipalatinsk (now East Kazakhstan) region. After graduating from the Yeltaev village school, he entered the Faculty of Kazakh language and Literature of the N.K.Krupskaya Semipalatinsk Pedagogical Institute, where he received knowledge from the luminaries of Kazakh literature K.Mukhamedkhanov, K.Shayakhmetov, K. Mashkhur-Zhusupov.

After the institute, he worked as a teacher in a secondary school, a school director, an instructor of the district party committee, secretary of the party committee of the state farm, head of the education department of the Urdzhar district. He worked in a managerial position of the Department of Culture and Language Development in Semey.

It was he who made a proposal to the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Alash movement, which was supported and celebrated within the framework of the Republic of Kazakhstan. On the eve of the celebration of Shakarim's 150th anniversary, G. Semey initiated the erection of a monument to the poet, and thanks to him, a monument to the singer A. Kashaubayev, known far beyond the borders of the republic, was erected. He initiated the installation of the memorial complex of K. Mukhamedkhanuly.

His book "Umytpandar meni" was published. The poet made his mark on the art of aitys. He was a prize-winner of republican aitys dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Kazakhstan, the 300th anniversary of Kabanbai batyr. He became the winner in the regional aitys akynov, dedicated to the opening of the Urdzhar district newspaper "Uakyt Tynys" and the 30th anniversary of the Aksuat district theater. The gala concert dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Abai Kunanbayev in Semey was opened with the song of K. Nurkasym "Abai toyyna toybastar" and the festive concert that took place on the 10th anniversary of Independence of Kazakhstan in Astana was opened with the song "Tauelsizdik tolgauy". K. Nurkasym is the author of many songs, such as: "Astana-Baytak", "Tarbagatai", "Semey-Alash", "Kalalyk kazak", "Men seni sagynganda", "Barkytbel tauym-bayragym", "Tolegetai", "Sokyrdyn zary", wrote music on Abai Kunanbayev's poems "Olsem ornim kara zher...". K. Nurkasym was awarded the badge of the Ministry of Culture and Information RK "Madeniyet kayratkeri".
